Paper cutting

WEEK 2 - DAY3

1. SOUNDTRACK OF THE DAY

My way - Frank Sinatra

(My Way killings are a social phenomenon in the Philippines, referring to a number of fatal disputes which arose due to the singing of Frank Sinatra's 1969 song "My Way" in Karaoke bars.)

2. PLACES TO KNOW

Tokyo

Mount Fuji - It has 3776 meters and it's  Japan's highest mountain. It's a nearly perfectly shaped volcano that has been worshiped as a sacred mountain.Monte Fuji Google View

Capsule hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It features a large number of extremely small rooms (capsules) intended to provide cheap and basic overnight accommodation.

3. PEOPLE TO DISCOVER

Naoki Terada

A video on Terada's paper models - As I watched this video I knew I would cheat on this day's hands on task. Miniatures demand high skills and patience. I was still sick and did not feel like doing this kind of demanding task at all! It's all about details...

Terada Mokei Company:

"Terada-Mokei was established with a view to exploring the potential for modeling, which is created by scaling things down and giving them detail, through models. This reflects our belief that when real items are replaced with models, the latter have an essence of reality, stuffed with dreams, and the potential to become more vibrant - better word in my opinion than their originals. We also consider it important to enjoy the process of assembling models."

Animation and Minimalism - The Making of "POCARI SWEAT - Make a THIRSTY Scene" - It's amazing!

4. QUESTION OF THE DAY

5. INSPIRATION

Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way

Frank Sinatra

Pythagoras - "Concern should drive us into action and not into a depression. No man is free who cannot control himself."

Steve Jobs - "The system is that there is no system. That doesn’t mean we don’t have process. Apple is a very disciplined company, and we have great processes. But that’s not what it’s about. Process makes you more efficient.”

David A. ReevesPaper-Cut Action Silhouettes

Jonathan Swift - "Vision is the art of seeing what's invisible to others."

6. HANDS ON

We were warned. Don’t start with the scissors. This task ia about making a project and then implementing it. Project + skills = result. We should build a paper world. Our paper world.

I cheated for this one. I just love paper cutting. But this week it was impossible to do such delicate work. Not with foggy eyes. I planned this in my mind between sneezes and fever. Honestly I just wanted to get away with it. So I just took some sheets of wasted paper that I always keep near me for drafts. I made some creases in it, I folded. A few cuts. This way I created a house, a tree, a boat, the sea. I crumpled some paper and created land. I am a paper doll. I am the result of a digital collage. That's my face alright. But that's not my body. Original photo did not have one so I made one. This is my universe. I left the security of my small and simple world, my house, and I stepped outside into the Design and art world. So now my head is filled with questions. What's this? What am I doing?
